For me the one of the biggest if not the biggest decision when creating a new website is choosing the right theme. I have talked about themes in another post – (https://climatechangingtech.org/topics/wordpress-insights/) . And what features I think you should look for when choosing a new theme.
So why do I think picking a theme is the most important feature of a WordPress site? For me it is because the ease in how you can create content for your site is dependent on your theme. Having a theme that is well documented and has explanations of features is a huge advantage. Not having to google, or search though YouTube videos to understand a nuanced feature is great time saver. Being able to stay in the WordPress Dashboard is like one-stop shopping.
Also as I have mentioned in other posts having a theme being compatible with major plugins and having the theme’s developer or developers keeping up with the latest versions of WordPress makes using that theme a safe investment of your time. You can become familiar with that particular theme and not feel like it will become obsolete or incompatible.
For this site I have chosen Neve as my new theme. And as I create more pages and posts I am seeing the advantages of what the Neve theme has to offer. For example being able to choose a color pallet easily and having a FAQ page available to show the details was a huge bonus.
In closing I would advise anyone to invest some time comparing features and looking for objective reviews when choosing a new theme. Doing your homework when choosing a new theme should save you time and frustration and let you focus on being creative.
